Product Information (FAQ)
What is the difference between a new vs. remanufactured toner cartridge?
When purchasing remanufactured cartridges from PrimeToner.com, there will not be
any difference in print quality compared to new cartridges. In some cases, a
remanufactured cartridge's can yield up to 5% higher. Many new OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) cartridges, such as Hewlett-Packard's, are also built
from new and used parts.
A used cartridge that is going to be remanufactured is first disassembled and
inspected for wear. Parts that are damaged or worn are replaced , and other
components are cleaned and reconditioned. The cartridge is then reassembled,
filled, and tested for proper performance. Ultimately, remanufactured cartridges
are generally between 10% and 20% less expensive than a new cartridge, they are
better for the environment, and they are quality tested to insure the same
performance yield.
Are remanufactured cartridges the same as refurbished cartridges?
No. Refurbished cartridges are formerly defective cartridges that have been
repaired. Remanufactured cartridges worked without malfunction during their
previous use. They simply ran out of toner or ink. PrimeToner.com does not sell
refurbished cartridges.
Know Your Rights as a Consumer (Warranty Protection)
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act prevents a printer manufacturer from
voiding a printer's warranty because of use of another cartridge manufactured by
other than the printer manufacturer. This Warranty Act prevents any company,
associate, salesperson, and service technician to deny service or warranty work
that would otherwise be covered under the warranty program.

15 Section 2302
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty
of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any
article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under
the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate
name; except that the prohibition of this subsection be waived by the commission
if: The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will
function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in
connection with the warranted product, and the Commission finds that such a
waiver is in the public interest.

***EPA Proclaims Remanufactured Products Are as Good as New***
RECHARGER MAGAZINE DECEMBER 1997
Washington, D.C. - The Environmental Protection Agency recently stated that
remanufactured products are as good as new in the May issue of its publication
WasteWi$e Update.
The publication promotes the benefits of purchasing recycled products, and is
distributed to businesses that are WasteWi$e Partners, government agencies and
other subscribers.
The May issue highlights several different remanufactured products, and
specifically describes the benefits and savings that Union Carbide and Ford
Motor Company realized by initiating remanufactured toner cartridge programs.
“In 1996, Ford estimates it avoided disposing of more than 67,000 pounds of
toner cartridges, and saved an estimated $180,000 in avoided disposal costs.
Since 1991, Ford has collected more than 332,000 pounds of toner cartridges for
remanufacturing and saved $1.2 million in the process,” the article states.
The 12-page publication also defines “remanufacturing,” and contrasts the
benefits of remanufacturing and recycling. Guidelines for choosing a toner
cartridge supplier is included.
The article concludes that remanufactured and reused products are far more
beneficial than recycled products. “WasteWi$e partners have also discovered that
introducing remanufactured toner cartridges slowly (e.g., through pilot
programs) allows them to build support for remanufactured cartridges and work
out any kinks in the program,” the article states.
According to the EPA web site, WasteWi$e partners commit to increasing their
purchase and consumption of products that are recycled or remanufactured. The
program is entirely voluntary and membership is free.
Copies of the May issue are available by calling the EPA at (800) EPA-WISE, and
further information about WasteWi$e is available on the EPA website at
